With or without a scarf

With or without a scarf, moms all equal.

A series of portraits of women, young and old, with or without a scarf.

Series performed on Saturday, May 18, 2013, during the demonstration “No to Islamophobia”, Place Joachim du Bellay (Fontaine des Innocents), in Paris.

This event, called by the collective “Mothers All Equal”, was intended to denounce “the exclusion of mothers wearing a headscarf during school trips”.

Indeed, in a ministerial circular dating from 2011, the former Minister of Education, Luc Chatel, prohibits the wearing of the veil to mothers who supervise school outings. For Luc Chatel, these mothers are assimilated to civil servants compelled to carry no religious sign.
